Interested in becoming a trained Sibshop facilitator for WisconSibs Sibshops or an existing registered Sibshop needing additional support to their 1st Generation-trained facilitators? This training is for YOU!

Training includes a live Sibshop with local young sisters and brothers.  Upon completion of the one-day training, participants are “2nd-generation” Sibshop facilitators and may be considered for any WisconSibs Sibshop or other currently registered Sibshop.

Attend if you are:
– A man or woman who has experience working with children – OR –
– A sister or brother (of a person with developmental disability or long-term illness) age 16 or older

Purpose of training:

  • Get information and learn strategies for addressing needs of children who have siblings with developmental disabilities or long-term illnesses.
  • Practice skills needed to facilitate Sibshops for WisconSibs programs and other registered Sibshops (1st Generation) in Wisconsin.

Participants will learn:

  • How WisconSibs Sibshops help address the concerns often expressed by sisters and brothers: peer issues, resentment, loss, and concerns about the future.
  • How WisconSibs Sibshops help increase the unique opportunities often experienced by siblings, including compassion, advocacy, insight, and tolerance
  • Overall strategies and Sibshops activities to facilitate discussion, sharing and team building among children attending Sibshops
  • Goals and practices of WisconSibs Sibshop
  • For registered Sibshop providers, tips for expanding your registered Sibshop program.

Dress:  Casual. Comfortable shoes suitable for playing games with children.
