Interested in becoming a trained Sibshop facilitator for WisconSibs SIBshop or an existing registered Sibshop needing additional support to their 1st Generation-trained facilitators? This training is for YOU!
Training includes a live Sibshop with local young sisters and brothers. Upon completion of the one-day training, participants are “2nd-generation” Sibshop facilitators and may be considered for any WisconSibs Sibshop or other currently registered Sibshop.
Attend if you are:
– A man or woman who has experience working with children – OR –
– A sister or brother (of a person with developmental disability or long-term illness) age 16 or older
Purpose of training:
- Get information and learn strategies for addressing needs of children who have siblings with developmental disabilities or long-term illnesses.
- Practice skills needed to facilitate SIBshop for WisconSibs programs and other registered SIBshop (1st Generation) in Wisconsin.
Participants will learn:
- How WisconSibs SIBshop help address the concerns often expressed by sisters and brothers: peer issues, resentment, loss, and concerns about the future.
- How WisconSibs SIBshop help increase the unique opportunities often experienced by siblings, including compassion, advocacy, insight, and tolerance
- Overall strategies and SIBshop activities to facilitate discussion, sharing and team building among children attending SIBshop
- Goals and practices of WisconSibs Sibshop
- For registered Sibshop providers, tips for expanding your registered Sibshop program.
Dress: Casual. Comfortable shoes suitable for playing games with children.
