2024 Sibs Are My Peeps Photo Challenge!

WisconSibs look forward to Spring. Warmer weather. New life. And one of our favorite holidays, National Siblings Day (always on April 10). It also means it’s time we look forward to seeing Peeps everywhere and  our Sibs Are My Peeps photo contest!

It just takes a few Peeps, some glue, a box, paper or decorations of your choice, and a little imagination. This year’s theme is “PEEPlympics”. Imagine using Peeps to show your favorite Olympic event, celebration or sport.

The Sibs Are My Peeps contest runs from March 1 – 31. See below for more details.

Check back later for info on the 2025 contest

The Sibs are My Peeps Photo Contest is open to any age, any ability, from any where. You can enter more than one scene. More than one person per family, group, business, or class may enter, too.

So show us your best “PEEPlympics” scene.  What will you re-create with Peeps? We can’t wait to see your scenes!

Finished your entry and ready too show us? Download form. Email form and photos to SiblingsAreMyPeeps@wpstaging.simple.biz

Congratulations to our 2020 finalists!

We salute Anna & Analiese from New London/Hortonville, WI
for their 2019 entry “Peeps Grand Cinema”.

Anna and Analiese were each just 9 years old in 2019 but already huge advocates for people with disabilities. They noticed that the cinema in the town did not have accessibility for people using wheelchairs. Their 2019 entry in the Sibs Are My Peeps photo contest corrected that.  Their entry stated “Our theater doesn’t have “handicap” spots for Lilliana (Analiese’s sister) so we have to sit at the edge of the row with her chair parked in the aisle.

Our Peeps Cinema has a concession stand, popcorn stand and a front row spot for Peep Lilliana. There’s even popcorn on the floor like a real theater.”

Anna and Analiese were awarded a special award, the “At-ta-Peep” Advocacy for Sibs and their Peeps.

Congratulations to all of the
2019 Sibs Are My Peeps Photo Contest finalists:

  • Taelyn, Gia, and Maribel from Brillion for “Peep on Swimming”
  • Glenbrook Elementary School – Mrs. Rettler’s class for “Go Peeps Go”
  • Anna & Analiese from New London/Hortonville, WI for “Peeps Grand Cinema”
  • Leah Quinn from Neenah for “Peep Yoga Studio”
  • The staff and clients of CP Fox Cities for “Party on Peepabago”
  • A2Z Design from Appleton for “Peeps Be Chillin’”
  • Elise from Appleton for “Peepin’ Around the Farm”
  • Penelope from Hortonville for “Peeps Cabin”

and honorable mention from entries by Denmark High School Photography students.

A BEARY FUN CAMPING TRIP:
WINNER OF THE 2016 PEEPL’S CHOICE AWARD

Submitted by: Sophia Nedens, Garrett Nedens A BEARY Fun Camping Tirp

Submitted by: Sophia Nedens, Garrett Nedens A BEARY Fun Camping Trip

My family and I took a trip to Montana to see our Grandparents and of course, go camping!  We took a drive up a mountain in our four wheeler, played TV (we acted out TV shows as Grandpa and Dad clicked the channel button on our “remote”) and even encountered fresh bear poop!

After watching a documentary on bear attacks the night before departing and finding out our camp site was surrounded by raspberry bushes, Mom and Grandma decided not to come.  So we enjoyed some fun times with Dad (the peep sitting in the peach ring float) Noah, (the peep roasting a marshmallow over a fire) Garrett, (the fishing peep with a Sibshop shirt) Grandpa, (the peep wearing a bear mask and hiding behind the tent trying to scare us) and I. (The peep attracting bunnies with a Lego carrot).

Enjoy these entries and winners in the 2016 Siblings Are My Peeps Contest

We are so excited that you are here.  Whether you are visiting us for the first time, or have followed us for years, we welcome you to our new website…and our new name!

For years we have been serving siblings, professionals and others as the Fox Valley Sibling Support Network. It was a fitting name for a new nonprofit back in 1998 who was breaking through with new ideas and wanted to create and develop high quality programs and services for siblings throughout their lifelong journey.

As those programs developed and have grown, we’ve become recognized as a unique resource throughout the state of Wisconsin and beyond with our Sibshops, Sib Camps, teen leadership opportunities and adult sibling programs.  The need for such services has grown, too, as more  people with disabilities grow older, and siblings find themselves dealing with issues of aging parents, growing children, and quality of life choices with their siblings.

So lets get acquainted. Look around our new site.  Whether you are a sibling or other family member, a professional, or a volunteer interested in the concerns of people with disabilities, we hope you find an opportunity to get involved in WisconSibs.

Until next time….

Harriet

For the past 20 years, we’ve been serving Wisconsin brothers and sisters of people with disabilities.  We’ve sponsored regular Sibshops® and camps for boys and girls (based in northeastern Wisconsin, but open to all) and we’ve delivered future-planning training and social events for adults and families. Click WISCONSIBS 20TH ANNIVERSARY TRIBUTE BROCHURE

We’ve helped hundreds of children, teens and adults who live each day with siblings with autism, intellectual/developmental disabilities, physical disabilities and mental illness connect with resources and each other to help them throughout their lifelong journey.

As WisconSibs and WisconSibs/Fox Valley:

  • We continue to provide Sibshops®, camps, future planning and events for families that are open to all, but centered in northeastern Wisconsin.
  • We are expanding online content, consulting, coaching, future planning, and conference presentations for siblings, agencies, educators, social workers, and other professionals throughout the state.
  • We are strengthening our role as the Wisconsin chapter of the national Sibling Leadership Network, and will continue to connect siblings throughout Wisconsin.

Our Mission

To foster a community of support and understanding for brothers and sisters of individuals with special needs.

Our vision

Siblings will thrive throughout their unique life-long journey.

Our values

We focus on siblings and believe that when the voices of siblings of individuals with developmental disabilities or long-term illnesses are heard, individual families, communities and society benefit as a whole.

  • We aim to help siblings feel less isolated and more empowered when it comes to unique issues they care about as siblings.
  • More than ever, siblings have a critical role in the quality of life of their vulnerable siblings.

We believe brothers and sisters have perspectives that are unique from other family members, service providers, funders or government agencies, and those perspectives are critical to ensure the quality of life of individuals with developmental disabilities or long-term illnesses.  We are prepared to listen and serve as a voice for the interests of these siblings.

  • They serve as advocates, listeners, care givers, guardians, and much more. That not only benefits their sibling with disabilities, but also taxpayers who otherwise could be called upon to support even costlier social services.

We know that for most, the sibling journey is life-long, beginning in childhood.  Therefore, siblings of all ages need information, opportunities for emotional support and sharing, and leadership guidance to advocate for their needs and the needs of their brothers and sisters with disabilities.

  • Relationships between brothers and sisters can grow and change, and then change some more. Sometimes these relationships are difficult . . . they are always interesting. Giving opportunities to celebrate, enjoy or start sibling traditions, and supporting resilient relationships is a joyful result for siblings and for WisconSibs.
  • Knowing that others share the same concerns can affirm a sibling and allow him or her to grow with confidence and pride in themselves and their sibling.

We respect siblings in their choice to be lovingly involved at whatever level and in whatever way they choose.

We believe the family is the most important support system and can best help children – in particular children growing up with siblings who have developmental disabilities or long-term illnesses – if provided with information, services, and encouragement.

About our logo

WisconSibs connects siblings of people with disabilities with each other, and with resources to help them throughout their lifelong journey.

Our logo reflects that:

  • The “i”s of differing sizes represent the different-ness of siblings (child/adult, male/female, etc.) – the diversity of people we serve.
  • The span of dots reflects connection, growth, and lifelong journey. Like the arch of a bridge, it symbolizes strength and support.
  • The colors begin with the green and blue of our former Fox Valley Sibling Support Network identity and expand to include other primary colors. That offers a fun and vibrant palette that plays to our mission to help siblings thrive throughout their lifelong journey.
