WisconSibs’ Annual Sibling’s Choice Awards

Posted on by wisibs

Over the years, siblings have told us how much they depend on and appreciate quality caregivers who really care about their brothers and sisters.  So, in 2009, we developed two Sibling’s Choice Awards to acknowledge and honor professional and family caregivers across Wisconsin who do an outstanding job of promoting the independence and quality of life of a person with a disability. In 2023, a third category was added to the award to recognize siblings of people with disabilities who act in a caregiving role for much of, or all, their lives.

Nominations are accepted from brothers or sisters of individuals with disabilities.  Nominations recognize either family caregivers, siblings, or professional individuals, including service providers, physicians, attorneys, financial professionals, legislators and advocates who serve and support individuals with disabilities.

Submissions for 2024 Sibling’s Choice Award nominations will open soon!

Siblings are my Peeps®: A Creative and Fun Challenge!

Posted on by wisibs

April 10th is National Sibling’s Day, and all of us at WisconSibs are gearing up for our celebration on April 8th. This event at The Building for Kids: Children’s Museum will feature our theme “Siblings are my Peeps®” This contest is geared to bring siblings together for the ultimate Peeple’s Choice Award!

Think of a favorite memory with your siblings, and create a scene using marshmallow Peeps® to make it super duper awesome! Some of my favorite sibling memories are playing with the laundry chute in our old house, biking in our unfinished basement, and goofing around on vacations.IMG_20160226_193933800

We had so many different ideas for our scene, but we ended up choosing to recreate our trip to the Jelly Belly factory in Illinois. I still have my hat that we are all wearing in the picture! This trip was amazing; you walk right into Jelly Belly heaven. Any and every possible flavor is there, including (but not limited to) birthday cake, orange cream soda, buttered popcorn (which is my favorite) and wacky flavors like toothpaste.
received_1115724795145279Recreating this memory has been such a blast for my sisters and me. We have almost too many ideas to fit into our little scene. I am so excited to see how our display of such a fun memory turns out!

Take a look at the official rules and guidelines for how to enter on our website under the events/info tab. What will your entry look like? Join us at our celebration April 8th to be eligible for the crowning of the ultimate champion. May the best peeps win…

Here’s an example to get you thinking of your scene!

Siblings Are My Peeps

This is your opportunity to have some fun with those cute little marshmallow treats by using them to create a scene or picture.  Share your creation by taking a photo and email it to us to enter the Siblings Are My Peeps contest.  Here’s more detail:

1. Think of a scene that depicts “Sibling Fun”, the theme of the 2016 WisconSibs “Siblings Are My Peeps®” contest. This could be a family portrait, favorite memory, holiday tradition, etc.

Sibs Are My Peeps Contest Logo2. Bring your scene to life using a shoebox, plate, or comparable item (not to exceed 24” by 24” deep by 24” tall) and those adorable marshmallow Peeps®. Melt ’em, mold ’em, manipulate ’em, dress ’em up, whatever you need to make your scene awesome.

3. Take photos of your scene. Then, email [email protected] to submit. Attach no more than two photos of your scene. Your pictures must be .jpg, .jpeg or .png files. Your email should also include:

  • Names, ages and home town/state of all who helped create the scene.
  • Phone number and e-mail address (not for publication).
  • Title of your scene. (Extra points for cleverness of course.)
  • 2-4 sentences about your creation or its significance.

**Be sure to include all of this information, or your entry will not be considered** (NOTE: Don’t disassemble your creation after you take your photo because if your entry is selected as a semi-finalist, it will be displayed at the Siblings Day Celebration April 8th.)

4. Photo submissions are due by Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. CST. Five semi-finalists will be announced Monday April 4th. Semi-finalist winning entries need to be delivered to the WisconSibs office, 211 E Franklin St. (second floor), Appleton, WI by April 6 by 4:00 pm.
